Paint a Blackboard Globe Activity

This geography craft project combines two normal schoolhouse objects and combines them into a hip art piece and fabulous learning tool. The chalkboard surface on the globe tempts kids to grab their chalk and start mapping out their next adventures. Kids can get a hands-on geography lesson by drawing and labeling parts of the world, or also use it to practice writing and doodling.

What You Need:

  • Globe
  • Sandpaper
  • Chalkboard paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Chalk

What You Do:

  1. Wipe the globe free of dust and show your child how to sand down any rough or raised areas.
  2. Paint the entire globe with chalkboard paint. This is a great time to review the different continents or countries by painting them in one at a time. Where have they already traveled? Where do they still want to visit?
  3. Allow the paint to dry overnight.

Now they’re ready to draw on their very own blackboard world—or any planet, for that matter!
