Research shows that kids who eat a nutritious breakfast do better in school and are healthier overall. To help your child fuel up in the morning and prepare for the day ahead, transform ordinary toast into edible cars that he'll gobble up faster than you can make them. Let your child create his own train toasts with the cookie cutter so he can have a hand in the breakfast-making and develop his fine motor skills in the process.
What You Need:
- Sliced whole-wheat bread
- Car-shaped cookie cutter
- Peanut butter, cheese, or other toppings
What You Do:
- Toast a slice of bread until very lightly browned. If you are using cheese, place thinly sliced cheese on top and heat in a toaster oven or regular oven until the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the toaster or oven and place on a cutting board. Have your child center the cutter on the toast and push down until the shape is fully cut. Don't let the extra bread go to waste! Save the scraps for making croutons, bread crumbs, or bread pudding. Or slather some peanut butter on them and eat them, too!
- Help your child spread his chosen topping on the car toast and dig in!
