These Olympic-themed treats are so quick and easy that even little hands can be a big help! The dough is shaped into five circles and the centers are cut out to create rings. Once baked, the cookies are frosted and trimmed with colored icing or sugar to look just like Olympic rings.
What You Need:
- 16.5 ounce package of sugar cookie dough
- Icing, sugar, decorating gel or sprinkles in blue, yellow, black, green and red
- Small round cup or circle shaped cookie cutter
- Smaller round cup or circle shaped cookie cutter
- Rolling pin
What You Do:
- Preheat the oven to 325° F.
- Time to get messy! Ask her to spread about ¼ cup flour onto the work surface.
- Have her dust the rolling pin with flour, too.
- Roll the dough into a sheet about ¼” thick.
- Now for the fun part: Invite her to cut five circles using a round cup.
- To form the rings, she can cut five smaller circles within the larger circles, using a smaller cup.
- There are two ways to connect the Olympic rings. The first method is to place the rings on a cookie sheet, two inches apart from one another. Once baked, layer the cookies over each other in the formation of the Olympic rings. The second way is to arrange it so that the edges of the rings touch and after they bake, they will be connected to each other. In either case, bake the cookies for approximately 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
- Encourage her to decorate each ring with icing. If she chose to bake the cookies separately, just have her squeeze a bit of icing underneath the overlapping parts of the top cookie so that they stick to the bottom layer.
