Coffee Filter Snowflakes

First Grade Winter Activities: Coffee Filter Snowflakes

based on 2 ratings

Want a warm snowy activity that still lets you play with snow? Coffee filter snowflakes are an easy winter craft and a good way to involve children of all ages in holiday decorating. Your child can get as creative as she wants with her scissors, and open up a unique snowflake each time. Make an entire blizzard!

What You Need:

  • Coffee filters
  • Scissors

What You Do:

  1. Have your child flatten a coffee filter on a hard surface to work out the wrinkles a little bit.
  2. Show her how to fold the filter in half for a half-moon shape, then in half two more times for a wedge. This is the perfect time to remind her about fractions.
  3. Now she can cut triangles, circles, or other shapes along the top and creases.
  4. Unfold the filter, revealing your snowflake.

Connect several snowflakes together into a garland!
