Make Jumbo "Cupcake" Crayons
Topics: Kindergarten, First Grade, Arts and Crafts
The age old question: What is to be done with all those broken crayon stubs? Finally—there's a solution! This whimsical activity magically melts all the pieces together to create giant multi-colored crayons. Making these scrumptious-looking "cupcake" crayons will improve your child's color recognition and blending skills, while teaching her the importance of reusing and recycling.
What You Need:
- Broken crayon pieces (with the wrappers removed)
- Cupcake liners
- Cupcake/muffin tray
What You Do:
- Preheat oven to 250° F.
- Have your child fill the lined cupcake tin with assorted crayon bits. Similar colors seem to work best, but encourage your little one to experiment with different combinations.
- Put the tray into the oven for approximately 20 minutes, until the crayons are just melted.
- Once they are cool, your child can remove the cupcake liners and enjoy her new giant crayons!
Coming up with memorable party favors is a breeze with this adorable activity! Simply pack these intensely-hued, jumbo drawing instruments into colored cellophane bags tied up with raffia or ribbon. Your little one will be proud to give away her crayon creations!
