Create a Postcard From Africa

Third Grade Black History Month Activities: Create a Postcard From Africa

based on 2 ratings

It is always exciting to receive a postcard from a friend or relative who is traveling to exotic, far away places. This activity puts your child's research and imagination skills to use as he makes a postcard that describes the many wonders of Africa.

This lesson enables your child to interpret what he reads and then translate them in both pictorial and written form. Older children can make a set of three to six postcards. This is a fun activity that will help your child stretch his imagination and practice his writing skills.

What You Need:

  • Thin piece of cardboard, approximately the size of a postcard
  • Pen or pencil
  • Colored markers
  • Book about life in Africa, such as: A is For Africa by Ifeoma Onyefulu, ages 4-8; Masai and I by Virginia Kroll, ages 4-8; or Ashanti to Zulu by Margaret Musgrove, ages 9-12.
