Second Grade Winter Olympics Activities: Throw an Olympic Sport Costume Party

See more activities in: Second Grade, Winter Olympics

Celebrate the start of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics with a sports-themed costume party! Invite your child, friends, and family to dress up in Winter Games-inspired costumes, which need not be an expensive or arduous task.

Instead of buying pricey ski gear or fancy pre-made figure skating apparel, help your Olympian design his own sports ensemble. Adding props and embellishments to winter wear that he already owns will inspire his creativity. As a bonus, designing the sports party announcement encourages typing practice and introduces him to the elements of an invitation.

What You Need:

  • Card stock or other sturdy paper (for invitations)
  • Computer
  • Printer and printer paper
  • Markers
  • Tape
  • Glue
  • Streamers (in the colors of the Olympic rings- blue, yellow, black, green, and red)
  • Cardboard (reuse a moving or packing box)
  • Winter clothing items
