Grammar gurus will have to know the parts of speech to win this Bingo game! Call out various words and challenge your son to write them in the correct spaces on the card. This is a fun way to help your child practice parts of speech while seeing just how goofy Mom can be.
What You Need:
- Paper
- Fine-tipped markers
- Bowl
- Your imagination!
What You Do:
- Using a black or other dark marker, create Bingo cards by drawing four horizontal and four vertical lines on each card. With a red marker, write FREE in the center space. Now write the parts of speech in the spaces of the first card. Be sure to include noun, proper noun, conjunction, preposition, verb, and pronoun. Make three more cards, being sure to write the parts of speech on different places for each card.
- Make your word list. Include words from each part of speech. Also, if you have five nouns on each card, make sure you have five nouns on the word list. Your words can be serious “school” words (tree, George Washington, walk) or silly words (hero, Captain America, belly button). Cut the list apart and fold each word in half and drop them into the bowl.
- Call everyone into the kitchen or dining room where they can have a seat at a table. Explain that they are going to play bingo. Instead of calling out a number, you are going to call out a word. They will then write the word beside the right part of speech. The winner is the first to have five words in a row.
Let your children add their own words to the bowl. Maybe they’ll chose vocabulary from a favorite story or a recent trip. Get everyone involved for super silly fun.
