President Craft

What You Do:

1. Help your child draw a small top hat -- in the style of President Abraham Lincoln -- on the black construction paper. (If he needs a reference, have him check out this Abraham Lincoln's Hat worksheet.)
2. Have her use scissors to cut out the hat.
3. Show her how to measure and cut out a square on the black construction paper that is three inches long on each side.
4. Next, help your child draw a small tricorn hat on the blue construction paper.
5. Have her cut out the tricorn hat.
6. Again, let her measure and cut out a square that is three inches long on each side from the blue construction paper.
7. Help her glue the black square onto the bottom half of one of the cardboard tubes. Explain to your child that this will be Lincoln's coat.
8. Have her glue the blue square to the bottom half of the second cardboard tube, creating Washington's coat.
9. Time to put on the hats! Let your child glue the top hat to the top of the cardboard Lincoln and the tricorn hat to the top of cardboard Washington.
10. Help her use markers to decorate both cardboard presidents, adding eyes, noses, mouths, buttons, etc.
