Easter Egg Paper Craft

What to Do:

1. Talk to your child about eggs. Why do we decorate with them in spring and at Easter? If you can find some, show your child pictures of Easter eggs to get those creative juices flowing.
2. Have your child cut out an egg shape from construction paper. Get her to draw one first, or show her the technique we use for cutting out hearts—fold the construction paper in half and then cut.
3. Help her measure and cut a piece of yarn that is the width of her egg. Then show her how to use that piece to measure and cut several pieces of yarn.
4. Now for the fun part! Have your child lay out a design with the yarn and pompoms. Take your time as she explores different possibilities. Talk about repeating patterns. Depending on how many colors of pompoms you have, you could make an AB or ABC pattern. Ask her what comes next, blue or pink? (Or whatever colors you’re working with.)
5. Have your child lightly sketch her design with pencil.
6. Now it’s time to put glue and yarn to paper! It’s best to work one section at a time.  Glue a section, then press yarn or pompoms firmly in place. Repeat until all sections are complete, and set aside to dry.
7. Your child may want to make a few eggs as she explores different patterns and color combinations. When she’s finished, string the eggs together to make a pretty Easter decoration!
