What you should know:
Kick start an early love of physics with Amazing Alex, an addictive puzzle game that kids will love so much, they’ll forget they’re learning.
This app starts simple, giving users the very basics: a movable shelf, a ball and a basket. Your kid’s job? To get the ball in the basket once gravity gets going, taking into account the effects of force and motion. For the first few stages, visual hints show users exactly where to swipe and tap. Game play starts simple, but difficulty increases with each stage, with more objects to manipulate. Inclined shelves help control the ball’s velocity, while balloons defy gravity to knock over books. Budding physicists must orchestrate Rube Goldberg devices to win stars and complete levels.
By level 10 (out of 100) the levels demand thoughtful—but engrossing—application of force and understanding of motion to solve. Diligent puzzle solvers are rewarded with three stars for completing the puzzle in the most efficient way, but one or two stars will allow you to move on to the next level. Amazing Alex proves that the award-winning creators of Angry Birds still know the secret to combining physics and fun in a kid-friendly app.
