What we like best:
What you should know:
This 2010 Apple Design Award winner gets high marks for its versatility. With this app, your budding artist can fingerpaint or create masterpieces with 19 high-quality electronic paintbrushes.
If your child shows an interest in art, she can let her imagination run wild with Brushes' hundreds of color choices, brush strokes and special effects. However, this app isn't one of the most intuitive we've seen – as soon as you load it, you're thrown right into a sophisticated design program built for grown-ups. Figuring out how to use it takes extensive exploring; exploring that's best carried out by an adult who isn't easily frustrated.
However, once Mom, Dad or Grandma sets it up, your child can swipe her way to basic color principles and find her artistic voice as she imagines her e-artwork and brings it to life. This app's more expensive than most, but could be a good pick for upper elementary-schoolers who learn toward art.
