What we like best:
What you should know:
Whether you’re dealing with a picky eater or a kid who refuses to eat during mealtime, the kitchen is often ground zero for parent-child battles. Help alleviate food stress and recruit a sous chef with Chef Zombie, a playful app that focuses on teaching kids valuable life skills, such as following directions and measurement.
Encourage little learners to tie on an apron, and try out dishes such as worm noodles and mummy dogs. Kids will find lots of “icky” entrees to cook here, each with step-by-step instructions, and can rate each dish on the yuck-o-meter. The recipes offer a monster-themed switch up to mealtime, and appear to be pretty tasty—despite their seriously unappetizing names. While not traditionally educational, this app offers practice with life skills, such as following directions and kitchen safety, along with real-world math in the form of measuring ingredients. While cute, this app could definitely use more interactive fun—such as mini-games that relate to each recipe’s theme, or even periodic “surprises” that can be found by tapping around, which could help kids become engaged.
Despite the lack of games, the sounds effects, like zombie chews and bugs splattering onscreen, are sufficiently sinister to appeal to little ones learning to cook … monster style!
