What we like best:

The narration with highlighted text is a great feature for beginning readers.

What you should know:

Readers need to flip through every page in sequence to move ahead or back—it would be useful to be able to skip ahead to a favorite section or dinosaur page.
Full Review:

Dinosaur names aren’t easy to read, but the Cat in the Hat will help if you need! Dr. Seuss’ beloved characters are back in the fresh, modern adaptation of the print book of the same name.

Loaded with interactive extras, this virtual storybook app really takes advantage of smart device technologies to help little readers along with pronunciation practice, vocabulary help and fun facts about different dinosaurs. Kids can choose between the Read to Me and Read it Myself mode options. In either mode, readers can tap any word to hear it pronounced, which is an especially useful feature for learning dinosaur names. Children can also tap bolded words to hear and see its definition, and hear words, definitions and fun facts repeated as many times as they’d like. When non-text objects are touched, the word for that thing pops up and the narrator tells you what it is. The rhyming scheme also follows the well-known pattern of other Seuss books.

Like most books from the Dr. Seuss Learning Library, this app is an all-around exceptional early reading tool. The developers paid attention to every detail here; even the background sound effects—which include dinosaur rumbles and echoing footsteps as the kids walk through the dinosaur museum—are top-notch.

Teacher Features:
This app is an excellent tool for early reading practice in the classroom.
