What we like best:
What you should know:
Dolphins dine on fresh fish and frogs favor insects—but what about zebras or bears? These are just a few of the animals that populate this playful nature app.
This tool is the perfect introduction to life science for even the youngest tots, boasting a choice of 24 animals to feed. Kids log on to the intuitive touch-and-tap interface and get four pages of critters to choose from. They also get a choice of two foods—one right and one wrong. Tap the food that's best for the beast, and little learners are rewarded with cheers. Feeding Animals is simple, but realistic—there's no fairy-tale food here. Brown bears eat salmon, (a more accurate representation than the honey-stealing bear you find in storybooks!) and amphibians lap up bugs.
The animal sounds add an interesting audio component, while graphics are realistic, yet still playful enough to appeal to the target age range—toddler through preschool. It's a little pricey for what you get, and would probably benefit from some additional features like guiding text or more food preferences. However, despite the simplicity, it's a good introduction to the natural world as is.
