What we like best:
What you should know:
The old party game has been given a high-tech twist! This app lets budding writers create delightfully silly stories just by filling in the blanks. Kids choose a theme and fill in words—using the appropriate parts of speech of course—and a story is created full of kinks and quirks.
The stories are crazy and fun and will help get reluctant readers interested in the possibilities of language and creative writing. Strangely enough, wacky words will make sense only if the player follows instructions—putting nouns, adjectives, adverbs, etc. in the right place. If the grammar isn't right, the end result falls flat. This strengthens story building and sentence structure skills while entertaining your student. Mad Libs is still published in book form and you can use the books and apps to reinforce parts of speech. Stories can be saved, shared and emailed.
There's a strong emphasis on typing and children are required to fill in as many as 20 words to complete a story, so some patience and perseverance is needed. This tool is worth the work and there's no limit to the number of different stories that kids can create.
