What we like best:

This app’s top-notch for teaching idioms in a kid-friendly way.

What you should know:

Kids may better grasp classic idioms if the app had visual accompaniments, which it doesn’t.
Full Review:

An app in the hand is worth two in the bush, and this one is all bark and all bite! Introduce budding wordsmiths to the wide world of idioms, figurative language and word relationships with this app.

Kidioms kicks off by introducing various idioms, explaining the meaning and providing an example for each one. Then, little learners can run the gamut of games to put this new knowledge to the test in one of three activities. In Word Drop, kids must complete the idiom by filling in the blank with one of five possible word choices. Missing Word takes this to the next level by challenging players to spell the missing word themselves, while Match Up asks kids to pick one of five idioms that fits in the context of a larger paragraph.

Progress is tracked, and customizable settings allow for speech effects to be turned on or off, which can help both visual and auditory learners. Settings can be tricky to navigate; children may need help from an adult. Overall, this educational, light-hearted app teaches children that if old dogs can learn new tricks, old sayings can be taught in modern ways as well.
