Full Review:

Luca is going on his very first swim lesson … but can he conquer his fear of the water first? In this charming e-book, kids are introduced to Luca, a little boy with magical lashes that make him brave in a blink of an eye.

This cute story is full of whimsical rhymes, sounds and a cadence that’s age-appropriate for early readers. Some children will enjoy the movement of the pages—they tilt and sway to give action to each illustration— but other kids who are susceptible to motion sickness may find it distracting or hard to read.

While drawings are lovely and the sounds help immerse children into the experience of swimming for the first time, the app falls short in the interactivity department. There are no hidden surprises to tap, no educational games for reading comprehension or any other ways to gauge a young reader’s absorption of the story. Still, this sweet story is a great addition to any parent’s interactive library—especially if they have a tiny swimmer who’s mustering up the courage to brave a pool for the first time.
