What we like best:
What you should know:
Exploration and independence are the name of the Montessori game, so as you’d expect, this app requires little in the way of adult intervention.
Designed to be highly intuitive, Numberland provides spoken hints to help kindergarteners navigate confidently through each game or learning option, all of which focus on numbers 0-9. Kids will be delighted to find hidden surprises by tapping, swiping and poking around on every page—developers made good use of tablet technology with the animation. Little learners aren’t intended to find every object on their first visit, which motivates them to explore again and again to discover new gems. In addition to the engaging interactivity, this app’s perfect for introducing budding mathematicians to the mechanics of counting and numbers through a series of fun games. Montessori spindles provide a great introduction and reinforcement of the concept of zero, or “nothing,” while in the 123 section, kids explore each number by tracing it and counting objects in the picture.
Boasting beautiful graphics and an open-ended interface, this app even offers inspiration to little artists in the form of a blank canvas they can use as a virtual creative outlet.
