What we like best:
What you should know:
It’s hard to choose which feature is best in this outstanding app. The extremely intuitive features make it easy to operate for even the youngest children. Pick a letter or sound to work on, and a close-up video appears focusing exclusively on the lips and tongue to demonstrate sound production.
Kids are encouraged to mimic the sound, and instructions and tips, such as, “Round your lips, then open your mouth,” explain the mouth movement in a way that may work for auditory learners. For each sound, a picture demonstrates the target word, and a sentence prompts production; for example “Black and ___” with a picture of a panda. Little learners are encouraged to practice along with the video, then record themselves saying the sound. The instant playback feature allows kids to hear themselves immediately and make corrections to their own speech before practicing again. It’s the little touches that really make this app—even the photos for each speech sound demonstrate a picture that matches the sound, like waves for “w.”
Because the app isn’t specifically targeted towards children, there may be age-inappropriate pictures that pop up. Supervise use to avoid prompts like “A glass of ____,” with a picture of a wine bottle and glass.
