Spelling tests got you down? Download this app, for a no-nonsense helpmate. The easy interface makes entering a personal list of spelling words a snap.

Load your child's weekly list, or use one of the pre-loaded lists created specifically for his grade (mostly based on the Dolch words). While there are few bells and whistles, this app tackles one of the major pain points of elementary school—rote memorization of spelling lists. It gives students (or parents) the ability to speak each word (for playback afterwards) or create a sentence that includes it, to help with memorization. Kids can practice spelling using the app's whiteboard and break words into syllables. They can also add photos, synonyms, or antonyms to reinforce meaning. Ready to drill? Choose between 3 different activities—a word scramble, word search, or missing letter puzzle a-la- Wheel of Fortune.

Once kids feel ready to put their spelling to the test, there's a mode that allows for easy quizzing—either in alphabetical order or randomized mode. Subtle reminders like case-sensitive features reinforce that words that begin a sentence must be capitalized, and a dashboard shows which words have been mastered.

Teacher Features:
The app includes audio recording, which helps students with auditory processing issues. Inputting pictures can help visual learners. Parents and teachers can differentiate words based upon the child's IEP goals.
