Full Review:

No need to dust off Boggle for your budding speller—instead, try WordzUp! This app’s a fast-paced game designed to build out children’s vocabularies in an addictive competition format.

Gameplay is simple—players begin by choosing the size of their square grid, either 3x3 or 6x6 letter tiles. The timer, set at three minutes, starts counting down as soon as kids tap Play. To form words, little learners must use “drag-and-drop” functionality, beginning with the first letter of the word. It’s simple to keep an eye on progress, thanks to a percentage listed at the top of the screen, which compares words played to total words available. Even spelling bee champs won’t be limited by WordzUp! There are tons of words to choose from and an in-app dictionary for learners itching to expand their vocabularies.

While the friendly competition works well to motivate children who are reluctant spellers, adults should note that this app is social at heart. Kids are prompted to share each score via Google Drive, Email, Facebook and other social apps, so play should be supervised. One way to ensure safer play is to pay for the full, ad-free version.

Teacher Features:
Teachers can gauge students’ vocabulary through the words used list below each completed game.
