son agitated when doing homework

son agitated when doing homework

my son is 61/2yrs,1st grader.presently he's been working on his word building paces, when i'm helping him with his homework i tend not want to overdo with the helping out somtimes we have to re-do a couple errors.is there an art to training a 1st grade on homwork,he's not consistant sometimes he just doesn't feel like doing it,so i let him be he comes around after a while then we get down to homework. He gets irritable easily and if he cant make out a problem he will stiff up a lip and refuse to tackle the problem,in turn i get really frustrated by the  time we are both done we are just glad its over.i want my son to enjoy doing his homework/learn new things and actually enjoy the process.how can i get him to set apart the play time and his work what do i need to do as a parent...neding some practical hands on advice.....regards

Hi Dalish,

Have you checked out the Homework Help articles? http://www.education.com/reference/topic/ParentSchoolConnection_HomeworkHelp/

Also, maybe this article in particular about Helping Gradeschoolers with Homework will help: http://www.education.com/reference/article/Ref_Helping_Homework/

It suggests tips to help change your child's attitude towards homework, from a "hassle" to "help".

Good luck!
Kelly
