bullying in our Ontario public schools
I would like to find out how your school(s) are dealing with the bullying issue. I am currently becoming further educated about the new Safe and Inclusive Schools Act in Ontario schools. I am obviously not thrilled with my school and how the present admin is dealing ... or not dealing ... with the bullying issue.Hi there,
Thanks very much for your reply. I have read a lot on the issue and have done many searches online. My concern lies with my daughter's school, and the lack of approach by the admin. A parent from our school, obviously frustrated by a lack of results around a bullying issue, was acutally published in our local newspaper. There was a case number stated as well as a police constable to contact. So, I did contact the constable, and it was very, very enlightening as to what is going on in the school. To my disappointment, the school didn't even post a reply or acknowledgement to anyone in the school community. Instead, they chose to completely brush it off. Toward the end of the year, I heard about a cyber bullying issue - in my daughter's Grade 5 class! I'm not sure where you are in the states, but I am assuming that is also an issue there. Interesting times we live in. I really feel what is lacking in our school system in Ontario is good ole' accountability ... from the administrators, teachers, parents, and kids. Without accountability and some positive direction, how can you help to stop the direction in which we are progressing?
Baggins,
Both of my kids were bullied in middle school. I know how challenging it is to decide on the best options. I could not agree with you more that more accountability is needed in the schools and in the classroom. Here at Education.com, we have recommendations / resources for principals and teachers that they can use to create safe schools from bullying. Please see the following:
