 MY FATHER DIED OF CANCER WHEN I WAS 14 YEARS OLD, MY BROTHER DIED OF CANCER IN 1990 AND MYSTEP DIED  OF CANCER 5 YEARS AGO AND HE WAS VERY CLOSE TO MY DAUGHTER WHOM IS 10 AND AUTISTIC THEY   HAD A VERY SPECIAL BONDE  AND SHE REMEMBERS HIM ALOT  ANY ADVICE  BEST WAY TO EXPLAIN TO HER WHAT HAPPENED, SHE IS DIAGNOSED, AUTISTIC, ADD AND MR,.  BUT SHE IS READING, WRITING, SPELLING,LOVES ART AND MUSIC,. MY EX MOVED BACK TO TOWN LAST YEAR AND DUE TO VOILENT TEPER DO NOT WANT HIM VISITING ALYSSA, VERBAL AND EMOTIONAL ABUSE  WHEN I WAS MARRIED THAT IS WHY DIVORCED WHEN MY DAUGHTER WAS 2.5,.MM

Miraclemom, I wish I had some really good advice for you about this. I'm so sorry for your losses. Considering your daughter is 10 and your step-father passed away 5 years ago, I would think that basically telling her the truth about what happened might be the best bet. She has had a lot of time without him near. With some gentle conversation, explaining that death is natural and happens to people is usually fairly straightforward to explain, but in the case of someone with autism, I'm honestly not sure what would happen.  Does your daughter have any concept of death? What does your doctor say?
