Getting a 17 year old in School
My daughter was living out of state with my sister due to a disagreement I had and still have with children's services several years ago. Through a very difficult time in my life I asked for help in 1995. I wasn't understanding her behavior. Their idea of helping was to take her from my home. Angry and frustrated I asked and did not get the answers I needed then. For several years I paid child support. I received a letter that my parental rights were terminated. Then nothing for a long while-several unanswered phone calls and letters to everyone I thought could help. I was told by an attorney I couldn't afford to fight the system. In 2001 I was taking my oldest to my niece's birthday party. My little girl came running outside. My heart stopped. Or so it seemed. We spent every moment possible together from that day on. I tried to get answers to no avail. I paid my sister to see my own child. In 2002 my sister decided to move to Washington. I flew there to see her. My sister tells me that she adopted my daughter and that she could get into trouble if the authorities found out i was allowed any contact with my daughter. I have seen my daughter every year. I talked to her as often as my sister would allow. Usually if I gave her money. May of 2008 my sister called me and told me to come and get my daughter. She said she had left home three days earlier and she couldn't find her. I was able to locate my daughter at a friends house. My sister's oldest daughter flew to Washington and returned with my daughter. My sister refuses to give power of attorney or guardianship to me so I can enroll my daughter in school. She said for me to wait until she is eighteen. She is now seventeen years old. She has lived with me for three months now. My sister receives a check every month from the state and wants to claim her on her taxes. My concern is getting her enrolled into school. Can anyone point me in the right direction in getting her into school. I live in Kansas City Missouri. Raytown School District. I have checked only to be told it will not happen without guardianship or power of attorney. I have contacted the authorities regarding her being here, the abuse(emotional and sexual) according to my daughter. I was never accused of a crime or arrested. Any help would be appreciated.
