Hi Tera,

I'm not a teacher or really up on any laws, but could it be that the school is following guidelines for ages and can't make any exceptions?  You mention that he can do all these things - but you don't say what it is that he can do or how old he is.

We are in the same situation. My son was born 4 days after the C.A. required enrollment date. He has attended part time gifted pre-school and pre-kindergarten programs since the aged of 2.5 years.

He commenced Kindergarten just over two weeks ago and from this second day of attendance; his teacher has given him the role of her school assistant. We have a parents conference in October where we intend to request (demand) he is moved into first grade.

Have any parents also completed this process; to assist me on his parents evening and how to approach his teacher.

I feel the same way...our son is five turning six in Feb and he is advanced for his age.  I wish they would move him to the 1st grade.  He is already reading books that the grade 2's are reading.  They told me there is nothing they can do until he gets into grade one then they can test him.  I just don't want him to get bored.  He already tells us he knows how to do everything that he is learning and that it is too easy for him.  The teacher also told us that she has not had a kindergarten student read at the level our son is at.  We challenge him at home with grade one work books but I don't want him to get too far ahead either.. I don't know what the answer is.  To us he seems like an 8 year old and we are not sure what to do.
