February child turning 5 on 2009

our school won't consider to accept her in kindergarten because she's only 4. they won't even take my cousin's who turns 5 a month after school begins. we don't have public preschool...

but my child knows her alphabet, numbers, shape, colors, recognizes most animals not just basic pets, tells stories, make up once upon a time stories, very independent, knows to write and learning to read and write. she surprised me one day when she asked me how to spell her sister's name. as i spelled each letter, she wrote them. i have a thick clear plastic cover on my table and put flascards underneath it. sometimes she makes up words by just copying letters from the table.

so my question is, is it possible that she'll skip kindergarten when she starts going? she loves books, can't get enough of it. i want her to skip 1 grade at least because of bday. she'll be 6 when she's in kindergarten. is there something else i need to approach as far as getting her ready for school?

by the way, i volunteer at the library. they have storytime all the time. my kids attend the whole summer reading program. they do well with social skills.

I've been teaching reading for over 35 years, and I taught my own daughter to read at 3 years old.  They never skipped her a grade level, but they did put her in accelerated special programs.  Eventually I transferred her to a Christian school where she could move at her own pace.  She was able to graduate a year early.  She got a 4.0 cum in college!!

There's alot you can do with your child at home to help her excell in school.  Take a look at my blog http://educationtipster.blogspot.com for some great parent teaching tips.  This is a special time in your child's development, so work with her as often as possible and have fun!!

Good luck, kathy stemke
