History course for LD student

Hello!

I recommend that you use as much hands-on activities as possible with these students.  I found that role playing is a wonderful technique!  Teaching history to students of this age group can be tricky, so it may be important to teach topics that they can relate to.  Often teaching American History is a perfect way to help the students connect to events of the past because they will be able to see the effects the events have on our current times and trends.  I would also recommend teaching geography so that the students have a better sense of where and why certain events occurred.

In terms of finding an enjoyable way to teach this history (besides role playing, which I use daily in my classroom), there are many resources out there that move away from using that boring textbook.

One site that I often use is United Streaming.  The site offers thousands of videos for the students to watch about a particular event that occurred in history.  This site can also be used for other subjects taught in school such as science and math.

I also recommend using "Virtual Field Trips".  "Virtual Field Trips" are a wonderful way for the students can "leave their classroom" daily, without actually leaving the school.  Some virtual field trips can be found on the following sites:
