Hi Nellie,

What kind of social difficulties is your so having?   Are you home schooling your son or is he in a regular school?

Hi Katherine, my son goes to a special Ed school, I use to home school him but he really missed being around other students,so i put him back in school. I enjoy it , because he was able to concentrate and I knew what level of education he was at. My son who nickname is Mimo, is a child who like to have fun, makes jokes and like being around people. When he gets around others,he tend to irritate them, and he tend to be disruptive, and not listen. He's also impulsive, and tend to say and do things that get others upset, but deep down he really don't mean it. There's more but I'll be here all day.., Do you have any suggestions?

Nellie - You might consider setting up some very structured activities for Mimo to engage in. How about a sport? A community group? Then you should probably "practice" different ways to talk to other kids. I remember my brother did this kind of thing when we were young and he seemed to turn out alright!

Hi Nathan, thank you for responding, Mimo was in the P.A.L. football league for our town, and they won the championship just a week ago, and won the opportunity to go to florida for the nationial, but quess what ? the coach told me that he doesn't want to take him because there's time where mimo is not listening and he's disruptive and the others kids doesn't want to be around him. when the coach told me that I was so deeply hurt, that I spend the hold night crying. I know my kid,and he really doesn't mean no harm,he really love people, but he just can't pick up social cues. Just last night I read to him something I had on, taking 100% responsibility. He enjoy it! Thank for your input,How would I go about practicing the different way to talk to kids?

Hi Nellie! Great to hear from you.   I think what he may mean is that you may want to talk to your son and kind of practice different scenarios where you role play. You pretend you're one person and you act out a scene with your son.  For example, you might pretend you're another child and you tell your son "How would you introduce yourself to me?"  This way you can help him become used to different situations and learn how to respond.

It sounds like you're a wonderful wonderful mother and you are very involved with him. My heart really goes out to you, especially when you say how upset it makes you when you see others don't want to be around him.

Are there any special groups or sessions that you could take him to or get advice from in your area?
