Moms of ADHD and/or LD children

my son

My son has been diagnosed with developmental disabilities non-specific.  In otherwords, we have no idea what lies ahead of us.  His primary delays are speech and language, and whether or not there are learning disablities are yet to be seen.  My concern  is this: How do I know if he is ready for a mainstream kindergarten.  His teachers and therapists tell me he will be, but I am not so sure.  He will be 5 soon and still does not know his ABC's.  He is a late birthday, which gives him one more year with ECDD.  Any ideas on how I can help him here at home so that he is ready?

I have been using dot patterns, word decoding lists and the strategies found on a site called www.teachallkids.com.  You are starting to work with your son at the best age.  I have met so many parents with children in grade 2 and 3, even one in grade 4, with children that still can’t read or do math.
Good luck and I am so pleased that you are planning on making sure he has a good educational start.
