Ceiling

A ceiling has two distinct, though interrelated definitions: (1) an assumed or actual upper limit, and (2) the highest possible score on a test. For example, the ceiling on the SAT Reasoning Test is 2400 because it is the highest score that can possibly be earned on the exam, but students may earn a score within the range of 600 to 2400.
