Child with a Disability

A Child with a Disability has a specific definition established by federal law and supported by state law. To be a child with a disability, the child's disabilities has a negative impact on educational performance and, therefore, requires special education and/or related services to be appropriately and fairly educated. Criteria are established or the following types of disabilities: autism, deaf-blindness, developmental delay, emotional-behavior disability, hearing impairment, mental disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, or visual impairment
