Emotional Disturbance (ED): Manifestation of symptoms of a mental health disorder in a child or adolescent. In the educational context, condition that, over a long period of time and to a marked degree, consistently interferes with student's learning process and adversely affects student's educational performance. As a disability category under IDEA, includes depression, fears, and schizophrenia.
