Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

A medical condition resulting from maternal alcohol abuse during pregnancy -- it is characterized by growth deficiency (low weight or short length), facial and other physical abnormalities, and central nervous system impairments (e.g., abnormal smallness of the head, hyperactivity, motor problems, and cognitive disabilities).
