Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that upholds the right of disabled children to a free and appropriate education in the United States. IDEA is the main source of funding and requires the creation and implementation of IEP's for students with special needs. The act specifies that students with disabilities must be granted special education services when needed to ensure an effective education program. The act protects children from birth through 21 years old.
