Initial Consonants (Initial Blends)

The joining of two or more consonant sounds at the beginning of a word, such as bl in black. An initial blend is the joining of the first consonant sound/s and the first vowel sound, such as ba in baby. Mastering initial consonants and initial blends is a crucial step in learning phonics.
