Glossary of Education
- Students who pursue a bachelor's degree at a college or university usually are required to select at least one major to satisfy graduation requirements. A major is a field of study, such as Biology, English Literature, Economics, or Music. In pursuing the requirements of the major or majors a student selects, it is expected that he or she will develop a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the field. Sometimes, post-secondary institutions allow students to create their own major as long as they comply with specified requirements such as professorial support and credit minimums.
