Multiple Disabilities

Multiple disabilities, such as mental retardation-blindness and mental retardation-orthopedic impairment, is the simultaneous combination of at least two disabilities that, together, contribute to a student's severe disadvantage in a standard educational environment. Those students with multiple disabilities are, by definition, unable to participate in a special education program that accommodates only one of their disabilities. Multiple disabilities in this context excludes students with deaf-blindness.
