- Passive Voice
- A manner of phrasing in which the subject in the sentence is acted upon by the verb. For example, "The ball was hit by Tony," as opposed to the active voice, "Tony hit the ball." Note: The passive voice is generally considered "weaker" than the active voice, and is generally discouraged in writing.
