Performance Levels

Traditionally, there are four different levels at which students can perform on a performance assessment or, broadly, in any area of potential achievement. One example of these four levels are, in ascending order, novice, apprentice, proficient, and distinguished. A student may achieve the distinguished status in a beginner's music class but, upon graduating to the intermediate's class, return to the novice level.
