- Syllable
- The organizing units for oral representations of words. A syllable is a unit of sound containing a single vowel sound and any consonants that modify, or are modified by, the vowel. All words consist of at least one syllable. E.g.: news is a one syllable word, but newspaper has three (news/pa/per).
