This page-turner unfolds through a series of letters, newspaper clippings, pictures and police reports, exchanged between an eccentric cast of characters, with fantastical and imaginative illustrations throughout. Sneak a peek into the mysterious and troublesome goings-on that take place between a best-selling (and rather grumpy) author, a mischievous boy and his even more mischievous cat, and a rather irritable ghost, during a summer stint at a haunted mansion. Clever, with just the right mix of tongue-in-cheek humor and adventure, this is a nice literary adventure for any young detective. (Harcourt Children's Books, $15.00)
