King Arthur

The book provides a great story arc for beginning readers. On the day of Henry Alfred Grummorson’s sixth birthday he mounted his trusty donkey and went out in search adventure. As a knight of King Arthur’s bloodline, he of course wants to slay some monsters, but none of the monsters he encounters want to fight! The monsters do help him realize that perhaps the adventure he was really looking for was friendship. Watercolor and ink produce mosaic-like illustrations that round out this book’s experience, and make it one you’ll return to with your child again and again. (Candlewick, $11.67)
