Tree Blocks

Wooden toys are nice, but many are so processed, they might as well be plastic. Tree blocks, made from reclaimed cherry, apple, and elder trees—the discards of forests planted by the paper industry—are the exception. Talk about toys au natural! Every set is hand cut from a different set of branches, which means that each one is a mix of sometimes odd shapes, from tiny twigs to chunky burled discs. Working with these blocks feels somewhat like building something out of sticks—sticks that stack. Quirky building bliss! (Tree Blocks, $25)
