Online tutoring means there is no need to juggle baseball practice or rush to a learning center. No matter what you think of the Web, in all likelihood your kid’s a pro. TutorVista's specialized and easy-to-use software makes online tutoring sessions a breeze.
How to get started
All you need is:- A headset with a microphone
- A broadband Internet connection
- Your regular old computer
- Optional: a digital pen tablet (~$50 through Amazon, etc.)
Students and tutors both speak to each other directly through their headsets. A shared interactive “whiteboard” allows them to work together on problems, explain and demonstrate solutions and strategies, and edit writing.
Personalized Instruction
In order to figure out how to best help, tutors need to understand a student’s strengths and weaknesses. TutorVista's tutoring process often begins with an assessment test in order to create a personalized instruction plan, which focuses on the areas in which a student needs help in order to succeed academically. Tutors monitor student progress throughout the school year, assist with daily homework, book reports or long term assignments, and help students prepare for upcoming tests. Tutors will both support the student in the school curriculum and provide enrichment or remedial work as needed.
Progress Reports
As a parent, you’ll get detailed progress reports on a regular basis to make sure you’re in the loop. Also, all sessions can be recorded for later use as a study tool or review. Of course, a picture’s worth a thousand words. Parents are always welcome to log in from a remote location and watch their child in a live session.
