Mr. Teacher

An End to the Writers' Strike (continued)

John Pearson is a third-grade math and science teacher in Dallas, Texas.  He has degrees in mechanical engineering from Duke University and Texas A&M, so most consider his math abilities adequate enough to teach nine-year olds.  He is also the author of Learn Me Good (Lulu, 2006), a funny, fictionalized account of his first year in education.  Read more at www.learnmegood.com

  2. Very funny and some of them actually sound better than what is currently on TV.  I think my third grader could get alot out of Charlies Angles.

  3. The main way to survive teaching is to have a sense of humor. And possibly a net. Very funny stuff.

  4. I guess I'm a big geek, but I'd actually WATCH "The Straight-A Team."

  6. Hey, if the teacher actually gets to eat a lunch in "7," you're already doing better than Jack Bauer.  Besides, I don't even think Jack could handle today's classroom.  Bravo!

  7. I'm still chuckling over Try Hard 2: Try Harder,  The Straight A Team and Fast Times Tables at Ridgemont High.  This guy should write another novel.  I read his first novel "Learn Me Good" and it is hilarious! His articles on education.com just continue to help keep up his street cred;) as a terrific writer.

  8. Hollywood...are you reading? These are all great ideas, but the Straight A Team's plot is pure brilliance.  ABC/Disney has the perfect demographic match, and a show like this could launch the careers of several teen stars who will can follow in the footsteps of the current bunch of Disney show graduates who shave their heads, abuse their children and drive drunk. Straight-A Team is a perfect launch show. Excellent ideas don't have to come from Hollywood. Keep up the good work, Mr. Teacher!

  9. A pre-emptive strike in case anyone takes my comments literally, my reply was laced with sarcasm.  I adore Mr. Teacher's column & the book is a riot! Check out "Learn Me Good".

  10. Elizabeth, don't worry, I didn't take your comments literally, but I did think they were pretty darn funny (not to mention accurate!)
Everyone else, thanks so much for the great comments!  I had fun with this one!
