A few words about me...

Dr. Hayward is a Professor of Psychiatry and Chief of Adult Psychiatric  Services at Stanford University Medical Center.  Dr. Hayward’s research has focused on the epidemiology of adolescent psychopathology in school-based studies and the role of early puberty in determining the onset of internalizing disorders in young adolescent girls.  He recently completed a five-year longitudinal study of over 2,200 high school students, assessing risk factors for panic attacks, eating disorder symptoms, and depression. More recently he has focused his research on social anxiety in adolescents and its importance in predicting the later onset of depression, alcohol use, and anxiety disorders. He is a recipient of a W.T. Grant Faculty Scholar Award. Dr. Hayward teaches the introductory psychiatry course for medical students at Stanford Medical School.  Dr. Hayward's work is typically interdisciplinary. He has collaborated with pediatricians, internists and psychologists in his studies of youth.
