What the Expert Says:

Truthfully a parent or guardian is your best resource. If they are not available does  your school offer a health class? Usually they talk about puberty in this class.  You can also find a student assistance counselor in your school building who may be able to help you.

Hi,

It's great to know that you are reading up on puberty and the changes that your body is going through. While it's great that you trust and would like to confide in your teacher, do you also have female family members that you can talk to? Confiding in your mom, aunts, grandma, older female cousins, etc. about this stage of life would be a great help to you since they've all experienced it and might have had similar experiences.

I don't know your relationship with your teacher, but if you are close to her, ask her if you can have a private conversation right after school or during lunch.

Asking your school nurse or family doctor would also be a good idea.

Another helpful resource is to ask your mom if you can both attend a class to learn more about the physical changes of puberty and menstruation. My mom and sister (she's your age) attended a "Heart to Heart" class that was offered at a local hospital, I've included the link below. Maybe there's a similar program in your county?

I found a website called Girlology, they offer books and classes; ask your teacher or school nurse if they know of organizations offering similar informational classes. The links are also below.

Hope this helps!

Just let her know you want to talk. Then when she makes the appointment just let her know. She will be more understanding than you might think. Good luck sweetie
