We found 2 preschools for our 3yr old that we are interested in. One is for 1 hr 30 min 3 times a week and the other 4hrs 2 times a week. Which is better? Wondering if 4 hrs is going to be too long for him.
Congrats on finding two possible preschools for your son! That is often a hurdle in our area (where preschools fill up fast and it's difficult to get a spot).
We had similar questions about the length of the session when our daughter started preschool, and chose a play-based co-op preschool that she attended three days a week, four hours each day. Like you, I wondered if the hours might be too many, but soon realized that she loved the playtime with others her age (and disliked that she couldn't go every day all day). A year prior to preschool (when she was 30 months), she had attended a daycare five days a week, so that may have contributed to her being comfortable staying in preschool for so many hours per week. Or it could have been that the preschool offered her so many rewarding learning and socializing activities that the time flew by. It's hard to know for certain.
I wish you well in determining what will work best for your son. Perhaps you could talk to other parents currently attending the two preschools you're considering and gather their input, particularly those parents whose children have similar traits or backgrounds as your son, or who struggled initially with the session time but adapted after awhile. The preschool we chose was able to connect us with their parent references in this way, and I would hope the preschools you're considering would do the same.
